If you have ever tried aligning some photo frames along the staircase or fixing a clock on the bare walls, it would be easy to figure out that balancing the object in question perfectly is no mean feat; which is why experts employ a highly specialised device called the bubble spirit level.
Spirit level bubble was designed as a super convenient apparatus, especially suited to survey reviewers, contractors, bricklayers, masons, floor layers, etc. A small spirit level is commonly kept in households as it provides a convenient procedure that ascertains the uniformity of any surface, both upright and parallel. They present a variety of specific applications and sizes.
The working principle of this important instrument is based on water’s ability to maintain its level. It is fitted with a small capsule containing water and a tiny air bubble trapped inside which shows if the surface is completely balanced. The available variations include:
Box Beam type
This is the most commonly used model, equally enjoyed by households, professionals, surveyors, and handymen. The basic structure is a long rectangular console, often made from aluminium and sometimes even more resilient, carbon fiber. The standard models incorporate 2 water vials and special grips to give a better hold.
Digital box
This one is like a large spirit level featuring a digital screen, displaying the precise measure of flatness for any surface. This is a highly professional model and hence does not come cheap.
Magnetic spirit level
Also considered a variation of the regular box beam model, it has a magnetic quality, to adhere to most metallic surfaces. This provides a better hold and more stability to get a precise reading of the flatness of planes.
Screed level
Such tools are most often utilised for floor laying, concrete setting, and laying foundations of cement, etc. and has multiple applications in landscape jobs. Made out of metal, this one has distinct vials indicating the floor level precisely to maintain the exact flatness on the ground level or other surfaces.
I-beam level
Somewhat like the box beam, this one is also shaped like a girder (I-beam) and is employed on construction sites. It is more convenient to carry and even easier to work with although it may not be as durable as some other models.
Torpedo level
This specific model is much smaller and lighter. Crafted in plastic and just 12 inches long, it serves its function perfectly in tighter or smaller spaces.
String level
For stretches too long where other models cannot reach both ends, string level comes in handy, with strings attached to a bubble containing a vial.
